What if your altar were not simply a place to perform magic, but a place where your relationship with the cosmos could actually live?

Astrology reveals a cosmos alive with relationships between planets, Gods, places, and people; altars and shrines give us a way to enter those relationships materially and intentionally.

In this webinar, we will explore shrine and altar practice through both an animist understanding of magic as relationship and the Iamblichean concept of sunathemata—the signs, images, substances, and objects through which divine powers may be encountered. We will consider how these ideas illuminate the magical principle of sympatheia, and how gathering planetary and divine sunathemata can transform a collection of correspondences into a place of presence, attention, and reciprocity.

Alongside this philosophical exploration, we will develop practical protocols for establishing a shrine or altar: choosing and arranging images and sacred objects, making offerings, cultivating ongoing relationship, and respectfully tending, dismantling, or storing a shrine when circumstances require it.
